Parents, our faculty attended a workshop about assigning zeroes (0) as grades and how many kids fail because of this. This is more of a behavior issue than an academic one because it is a decision that students have made about not completing and turning in assignments. We all know how zeroes (0) bring down averages. The presenter, Dr. Lynn Canady, discussed how a zero should not be an option:  the kids should still do the work & the work is an integral part of learning. 

NEW TEAM POLICY: Students who do not complete assignments (class or homework), must stay after school on Friday (the day our team does detentions) to complete the missed assignment  a zero is no longer acceptable. 

We will probably get more work turned in on time now and the kids will still learn what they need to learn and do what they have to do (and have better grades).  We feel that this will eliminate excuse making from the kids.  We appreciate your support in this new endeavor.
