Auburn Junior High School - 9th Grade - World History

 

 

Your child’s grade will be based on the following criteria and point system:

  • Homework/ Classwork (10-100 points each depending on assignment)
  • Chapter Tests (200 points each)
  • A number of group activities and presentations will take place during each nine weeks.  Grades will be given based on individual achievement; however, bonus points and other rewards will be given based on individual and group achievement (100 – 200 points each)
  • Projects (100-200 points each)
  • Late Work:
  • 1 day late = 10% off
  • 2 days late = 20% off
  • 3 or more days late = 50% off

 

Proactive Participation Points:

Proactive participation points can be earned through academic and behavioral excellence such as leading a group, volunteering, actively learning, being a good team member, coming to class prepared, winning a review game and many other ways.  PPPs may be turned in for bonus points on midterm and final exams, or 5 maybe traded in for a tardy or restroom visit.

 

Course Objectives:

  • The student will compare and contrast past cultures and civilizations to the present.
  • The student will demonstrate an understanding of current world affairs and their relationship to past situations.
  • The student will develop a sense of historical time so that he or she can place events in chronological order.
  • The student will be expected to think critically about past, present and future world events.  

Credit:

World History is a semester course which is worth one credit.

 

Supplies:

  • 1 binder
  • Notebook dividers
  • pencils
  • Notebook paper
  • 3” X 5” index cards (These will be used to make study cards for tests and will need to be replenished throughout the course)
  • Crayons or markers (These are needed for many group projects and presentations)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Book Cover
