PROGRAM
Students in this advisory class begin the day with reading, character education, and preparation for the school day. The students and teacher engage in STAR (Stop Talking and Read) to learn about subjects of their own interest or enjoy stories they have self-selected. Readers may bring in their own material or borrow from the classroom or school library: novels, non-fiction books, magazines, newspapers, articles from the World Wide Web, manuals, etc. The most important aspect is that the student participates in sustained reading of resources in which he or she is interested.

In addition to facilitating the advisory class, the advisory teacher can help students with needs at school, regardless of whether or not the student has this teacher for an academic course. The advisory teacher can be a liaison among teachers for the purpose of improving communication and/or assisting students in planning for positive educational and social experiences at AJHS. Please contact the advisory teacher with any questions or concerns about academic progress and/or school experiences.

GRADING
Advisory students will earn an "S" for satisfactory work. The grade is reported as "Advisor" on grade reports.
