Larry Cornelius – Director
Larry Cornelius is a native of Oneonta, Alabama, graduating from Oneonta High School in 1988. He attended University of Montevallo where he earned the Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1992. He was awarded the Master of Education in Music degree at Auburn University in 1996.
Mr. Cornelius is in his sixteenth year at Auburn Junior High School, where he currently serves as band director of the Symphonic and Honors Bands and as director of the Jazz Ensemble. Mr. Cornelius is active in numerous honorary and professional organizations including Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity, Alabama Music Educators Association, Alabama Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, and the International Association for Jazz Education. He has been elected to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers in 1998 and 2006, Who's Who in America in 2006, Who's Who Among Emerging Leaders in 2007, and was chosen as Teacher of the Year for the school in 2000. He is currently serving as vice-chairman for Alabama Bandmasters Association District VI. He also serves as the Assistant Minister of Music at Lakeview Baptist Church in Auburn, where he directs the orchestra.
Mr. Cornelius is the son of Adrian and Betty Cornelius of Oneonta, Alabama. He is happily married to Jeanna Walker Cornelius of Auburn, and they have a son named Matthew.
