Audition Material
for
2008 Alabama Junior High All-State Band
**************
1. If you play one of the following instruments, then you are considered “assigned personnel”, and you will audition at Opelika High School on Saturday, January 26, 2008.
Flute Trumpet Baritone
Bb Soprano Clarinet Horn Tuba
Eb Alto Saxophone Trombone
2. If you play one of the following instruments, then you are considered “unassigned personnel”, and you will also audition Saturday, January 26, 2008 but at a different location to be announced later.
Oboe Tenor Saxophone Bass Clarinet
Bassoon Baritone Saxophone Percussion
3. Read the requirements carefully. Consult your scale sheet for correct notes. Scales must be memorized. There will be a sheet in the audition room that lists your beginning note (written pitch), not concert pitch. In other words, if it says to play the Bb scale, start on your note Bb.
4. Please make sure that you learn your scales thoroughly. You must pass at least 5 of the major scales and their related arpeggios to be able to continue the audition. Besides, if you play your scales perfectly, you will have gotten off to an excellent start on your audition.
5. To improve your sightreading, practice playing every new thing you can possibly find. If you need some new things to read, let me know and I will suggest some for you. Notice important things like the key signature, time signature, accidentals, and difficult rhythms.
6. I have tapes of your scales and exercises if you would like a copy to practice by. Bring me a blank cassette tape, and I will make a practice tape for you.
7. You are to be commended for your efforts and hard work in auditioning for the All-State and All-District Bands. You will greatly improve as a player during this time, and your inprovement will benefit everyone, including the band as a whole.
8. Remember that this is also the audition for the District VI Junior High Honor Band.
9. I am always willing to make myself available to help you. Just see me to set up a time to get extra help.
10. I have no doubt that you will represent Auburn Junior High School Bands well at the audition! Let me know if I can help you prepare in any way. I am here for you! Private lessons are also an excellent idea.
