Language and Mechanics

Students in all 9th grade English classes receive instruction in the following areas:

• Sentence structure
• Comma usage
• Capitalization
• Semi-colon and colon usage
• Use of quotation marks
• Apostrophe usage
• Noun and verb forms and usage
• Subject/verb agreement
• Pronoun/antecedent agreement
• Placement and usage of modifiers
• Use of formal and informal language

I expect students to use the language and mechanics rules they learn in class when they edit the compositions they write during writing workshop.
