Marching Band After-School Rehearsals

Honors Band
This term (1 credit) course provides students with the opportunity for the performance of the most advanced music written for the wind band.  Mastery of advanced band skills is a prerequisite.  Attendance at all scheduled performances is required.  Please see After-School Rehearsals below for an explanation of after school rehearsal for the marching and concert band season.  Placement into the Honors Band is by audition, and membership consists of grades 10-12.

Lab Band
This term (1 credit) course currently operates as a jazz-rock ensemble.  Subject matter includes study and performance of both traditional and current forms of America's only native art form.  Participation is by audition, and membership consists of grades 10-12.

Symphonic Band I
This term (1 credit) course is a performing ensemble with class activities aimed at improving each student's mastery of the basic band performance skills.  Attendance at all scheduled performances is required.  Please see After-School Rehearsals below for an explanation of after school rehearsals for the marching and concert band season.  Placement into the Symphonic Band is by audition, and membership consist of grades 10-12.

Symphonic Band II

Marching Band
Marching Band at AHS is a Non-Credited ensemble.  Members of the Symphonic Band I, Symphonic Band II and Honors Band can also participate as a member of the AHS Marching Band.  During football season, the marching band will rehearse after school from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.  The marching band also participates in the AHS football games and related activities, as well as the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Holiday Parade.

Music Theory
A term (1 credit) course of basic music theory offered to students in grades 11 and 12.  Content area includes the following:  musical notation, scale construction, intervals, chord construction, musical transposition and four part writing.  There is not a prerequisite course, but the student should have some prior musical knowledge.

IB Music
A term (1 credit) course where the student will study a variety of musical works spanning different styles, historical periods and national origins.  The main emphasis of this study will be from a historical, analytical and theoretical view.  The student will be required to complete a 1500 word "Musical Investigation"; an in-depth study of a major musical composition; and submit a recording of the student as a soloist, as a member of an ensemble, or compositions written by the student.  Whereas no prerequisite course is required, prior musical knowledge by the student would be beneficial.

After-School Rehearsals
Symphonic Band I & II -  There will be a minimum of two after-school rehearsal schedule before each concert for the Symphonic Band students.  These rehearsal will be scheduled well in advance and attendance is expected.
Marching Band - Marching Band after-school rehearsals are scheduled on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:45 p.m.  These rehearsals will end at the conclusion of football season.  Additional marching band rehearsals may be scheduled as the need arises.
