
Business Technology Essentials
Course
Description
A
term (1 credit) course designed to help students master basic skills in the
areas of word processing, database management, spreadsheet, presentation,
multi-media, Internet, and E-mail. Students are also offered opportunities to
identify ethical issues pertaining to information systems and to gather
information about careers in technology.
Communication and critical thinking skills are reinforced through the
use of software applications. Simulations
and projects promoting teamwork and leadership skills offer further
opportunities for application of knowledge and skills.
Philosophy
Students
are expected to meet all course goals and apply knowledge through real life
situations. A variety of teaching
methods are employed to teach decision making, problem solving, communication,
and employability and technological skills to students enrolled in the
business education program. Techniques
include the use of small and large group discussions, lecture, independent
study, simulations, gaming, peer teaching, demonstration and cooperative
learning methodology. Hands on and problem solving experiences are encouraged
to allow students to become engaged in the learning activities, learn
business procedures, and to practice desired behaviors and attitudes.
Students are expected to become actively involved in activities,
experiences, and assessments that deal with applying, synthesizing, and
evaluating knowledge and skills. Tests, performance assessments, laboratory work, project
reports, assignment completion and project presentations are used in assessing
student learning and progress throughout the course.

functions, and common features of common types of software word, processing,
spreadsheet, database and presentation software

creating word processed documents, spreadsheets, databases and presentations

Demonstrate knowledge and
skills while working with computers and other multimedia equipment.

Utilize problem-solving
skills in a workplace setting.

Apply mathematical/scientific
concepts for solving problems.

Demonstrate effective
communication skills.

Assess the use of technology
in different career fields.

Explain the impact of
technological advancement on a variety of areas.

Students

decision-making, problem solving, communication, technological skills, and
employability. Students will become actively involved in activities,
experiences, and assessments that deal with applying, synthesizing, and
evaluating knowledge and skills. Leadership and teamwork skills are vital in
the business world and will be assessed as part of projects and cooperative
learning assignments.
Assessment/Evaluation
Students

business students are also encouraged to join (FBLA), Future Business Leaders
of America--Middle Level. FBLA is a student organization that helps enhance course instruction, develop
leadership skills, and provide opportunities for professional growth and
service.
