FAQs About the Life and Times of Ernest Hemingway
Assignment

Your Assignment: Over the course of the next two class periods, you will be researching the EXTREMELY interesting life of Ernest Hemingway. Many consider him to be THE GREATEST AMERICAN WRITER!  So, what experiences shaped his life and his art?  At the end of your research, you will work as a class to create a FAQ sheet about the life and times of one of America's most fascinating authors.

Day 1 & 2: Research

bullet

You will work with a group or a partner to research one (1) of the following aspects of Hemingway’s life:

                        Group 1: Hemingway's Childhood

Group 2: Hemingway’s Experiences with WWI and Paris

Group 3: Hemingway’s Experiences in Key West & Cuba

Group 4: Hemingway’s Experiences with WWI and His Last Days

                        Group 5: Hemingway’s Iceberg Principle

bulletYou will research your assigned topic and work with your group or partner to create six (6) questions and answers (FAQs) to contribute to the class FAQs About the Life and Times of  Ernest Hemingway sheet.  Be sure your questions are broad enough to cover detailed information.  Avoid simple questions that require one line answers (e.g. When was Hemingway born? 1899).  Instead, compose six (6) strong questions that will provide insightful information about the author and his life (e.g. What is meant by The Lost Generation?).  And no, you may not use the FAQs from any other sources.  You must compose original questions!

bullet

Your questions and answers must be typed in a Microsoft Word document, and you must include graphics, photos, or links in your FAQ information.  You will be sharing this information with the class via the LCD screen, so be sure to use interesting images and a font that can be seen (16pt or larger).

For each FAQ and answer, you must cite the source of your information using correct MLA format.  You may access the Citation Cheat Sheet on the Pre-AP/IB English 10 page of my web site (www.auburnschools.org/ahs/kmock) or you may access the following link for help http://www.ccc.commnet.edu/mla/format.shtml.
