prop·a·gan·da  [prop-uh-GAN-duh]  information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, nation, product, etc. 

 

Below are listed the ten types of propaganda.

 

  1. Bandwagon: the implication that “everybody else is doing it.”
  2. Plain folks: the implication that “users of this product are just like you.”
  3. Card stacking: distorting or omitting facts.
  4. Name-calling: stereotyping people or ideas.
  5. Glittering generalities: using “good” labels (such as patriotic, beautiful, exciting) that are unsupported by facts.
  6. Testimonial: an endorsement by a famous person.
  7. Snob appeal: the implication that only the richest, smartest, or most important people are doing it.
  8. Transference: the association of a respected person with a product or idea.
