Troy R. Dobbins, President Elect, 2007 – 08

August 1, 2007

Hello, AHS Parents, students and Teachers,

As we approach the first day of school, I wanted to take this time to welcome everyone back to school and back to the next exciting year. I want to assure you that the Auburn High School (AHS) PTA is already working to help make this the best year yet. With all the great AHS PTA Board members that served in the years before us, we can’t help but succeed. The teachers and students at AHS are already the best in the State so how can we fail!

As our students get older, and as parents we continue to stay busy, it’s harder and harder to be very active at school. Additionally, our students don’t always enjoy us being at school! We understand that! I would like to ask you all though to consider joining PTA. We use the membership funds to aid in so many projects around the school. The AHS PTA doesn’t have a huge budget or balance but I looked at the historical funding the treasurer, Mr. Howard, provided and the PTA supports a host of outstanding projects totally dedicated to the school. His report will be added to the web site so that you can see for yourself, but it includes Baccalaureate Reception, Insurance, Project Graduation, Grants ACS Emergency Medical Fund, Honors Banquets and other worthwhile organizations. There is not a surplus of money but all money goes to AHS causes only! We are going to work this year on trying to raise a bit more money though so that the PTA can contribute to all good causes as they arise. Our funds come from dues, the fall festival and other miscellaneous areas.

The PTA is one of the oldest and largest volunteer associations in the country which works with children in education. The Alabama PTA is one of the oldest members of the national group. The PTA is still involved with President Bush’s plan of No Child Left Behind and is going to increase its stand on internet safety. Every year our PTA has several nominees for the Reflections Program with Auburn City Schools having several state winners. By the way, the Theme for this year’s Reflections is: "I Can Make a Difference By…"

It is my honor to have been asked to serve as President of this year’s Auburn High School PTA. I will work hard in making this year a helpful one in which we are all involved in our student’s academic life and in thanking the people at school and home who take care of these precious commodities. Parents are key to this involvement and children need to be protected in High School as much or more than any other year. We would appreciate your commitment to join AHS PTA and we have room for many people to work! I look forward to meeting you all.

Sincerely,

Troy R. Dobbins
