WELLNESS
In an ongoing effort to enhance learning and improve the long-term health of our students and staff, ACS is committed to promoting a school environment that reinforces the development of lifelong wellness practices through health education, good nutrition practices and appropriate amounts of physical activity.
The superintendent, or designee, shall implement procedures that comply with all federal and state regulations for promoting wellness. The procedures shall be consistent with the following guidelines:
Auburn City Schools will provide wholesome, nutritious meals, including breakfast and lunch, as well as A la Carte snacks for Auburn City Schools’ students in accordance with all Federal and State guidelines and regulations.
Physical education and health classes will offer learning opportunities, which will provide the cognitive knowledge and physical skills necessary to participate in a variety of movement activities that could be enjoyed for a lifetime. Physical education and health classes will promote wellness activities that students can integrate into their lives.
Sequential and interdisciplinary nutrition education will be provided and promoted in accordance with the goals and objectives set forth by federal and state curriculum guidelines for health and physical education classes.
Auburn City Schools will insure that fundraising activities promote foods with nutritional value. Fundraising activities will also be scheduled during times that do not interfere with the school lunch program.
Employees of Auburn City Schools will receive annual professional development on the integration and implementation of wellness practices in their classroom and lives.
Auburn City Schools will implement a strategic plan for measuring the outcomes of the wellness policy as it relates to child nutrition, physical education, health curriculums, and fundraising efforts. The strategic plan will be reviewed on an on-going basis.
