BUS CONDUCT
While the Board offers, as needed, a system of pupil transportation, it also requires parents/guardians of students to accept responsibility for supervision until such times as the child boards the bus in the morning and after the child leaves the bus at the end of the school day. Once a child boards the bus - and only at that time - does he/she become the responsibility of the school district. Such responsibility shall end when the child is discharged at the regular bus stop.
Since the bus is an extension of the classroom, the Board shall require children to conduct themselves on the bus in a manner consistent with established standards for classroom behavior.
When a child does not conduct himself/herself properly on a bus, such instance shall be brought to the attention of the building principal by the Transportation Coordinator or bus driver. The school shall inform parents immediately of the misconduct and request their cooperation in controlling the child’s behavior. The school administration shall discipline students as deemed appropriate and in accordance with the Auburn city schools Statement of Responsibility.
Appeal of disciplinary decisions may be made to the Superintendent or his/her designee.
A child who becomes a serious disciplinary problem on the school bus may have his/her transportation privileges suspended or terminated. In such cases, the parents/guardian of the child involved shall become responsible for seeing that their child gets to and from school.
