HOMELESS, MIGRANT, IMMIGRANT, NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING,
NEGLECTED/DELINQUENT STUDENTS

 

Homeless children in Auburn City Schools will have access to a free, appropriate education and will not be prohibited from school attendance due to barriers such as:

  1. Residency requirements
  2. Lack of Social Security
  3. Lack of Birth Certificate
  4. Lack of Immunizations
  5. Legal custody requirements
  6. Transportation
  7. Language barriers 
  8. Disabilities

Also children who are  non-English speaking, immigrant, migrant, or neglected/delinquent will have access to a free, appropriate education and will not be prohibited from school attendance due to barriers such as: 

  1. Lack of Social Security
  2. Lack of Birth Certificate
  3. Lack of Immunizations
  4. Legal custody requirements
  5. Transportation
  6. Language barriers 
  7. Disabilities

Should students enter without the required documents, the assistant superintendent in charge of pupil services with the assistance of the system’s attendance officer will take necessary steps to secure the required documents.

 School system personnel including secretaries, nurses, counselors, teachers and principals will be advised of the presence of eligible homeless, migrant, immigrant, non-English speaking, and neglected/delinquent students in their assigned school to ensure that equal access to all school programs is provided.

These include, but are not limited to:

Transportation, special education components, Title I, accelerated classes, elective classes, counseling programs, programs for individuals with disabilities, vocational programs, preschool and kindergarten, health and nutritional services, before and after school activities, English language learner proficiency programs and social service referrals.
