SICK
LEAVE
Sick
Leave for all personnel is accumulated at the rate of one day per month of
employment, and one may carry over unused leave to the next year of employment.
An employee may accumulate an unlimited number of sick leave days.
Authorization for, and verification of, sick leave shall be the responsibility
of the employee’s immediate supervisor. The
Superintendent may require a statement from the attending physician in verifying
the need to use sick leave by an employee.
Sick
leave is defined as the absence from regular duty due to any of the following
reasons:
- Personal illness or doctor’s quarantine;
- Incapacitating personal injury;
- Attendance upon an ill member of the
employee’s immediate family (parent, spouse, child, sibling); or an
individual with a close personal tie;
- Death in the immediate family of the employee
(parent, spouse, child, sibling, parent-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law,
brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nephew, niece, grandchild, grandparent,
uncle, or aunt);
- Where unusually strong personal ties exist due
to an employee having been supported or educated by a person of some
relationship other than those listed, such relationship may be recognized
for leave purposes. In each case, the employee concerned shall file
with the Board a written statement of the circumstances, which justify an
exception to the general rule.
