HEALTH EXAMINATIONS

The Board, in accordance with State statutes, shall not employ teachers, aides, janitors, maids, food handlers or bus drivers and other persons having direct contact with pupils, who have tuberculosis in an infectious stage. The Board requires an examination of all prospective employees. The types and frequency of tests required shall be as established by rule of the State Board of Health. Such examination shall be made by the Lee County Health Department or by any other licensed physician of the employee’s choosing.

The Board shall require a current health certificate, issued by the Lee County Health Department, for janitors, maids and all food service employees. An annual physical examination, as prescribed by the Board, shall be required for all bus drivers over the age of 70. Cost of this examination will be borne by the Board.

The Board reserves the right to require employees of the school district, at any time and at Board expense, to submit to a physical or mental examination by a physician(s) to be designated, or approved, by the Board. In all cases, such requirement by the Board shall be based on reasonable cause. The Board may terminate the employment of any person whose condition of health as determined by such examination makes further retention of such employee detrimental to the best interest of the school district. Refusal to submit to such examinations may constitute grounds for dismissal.
