MUSIC APPRECIATION CLASS
Music Appreciation Class is offered as an elective class to both 8th and 9th grade students.*
     8th grade students will receive 1 elective credit; 8th grade students will not receive Fine Arts credit
     9th grade students will receive 1/2 elective credit and 1/2 Fine Arts credit
 
Students will study the following music areas:
1) BASIC MUSIC ELEMENTS: pitch - melody and harmony, time - rhythm and meter, timbre - sounds, notation, form
2) INSTRUMENTS - band and orchestra
3) PLAYING INSTRUMENTS - chimes, piano, recorder, guitar
4) AMERICAN MUSICAL THEATRE - Broadway musicals
5) PERIODS OF MUSIC - Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern/20th Century
 
REQUIREMENTS
GRADES -  Basic Music Elements, Instruments of the Orchestra and playing instruments, American Musical Theatre, Periods of Music, Guests, Other
25% - PARTICIPATION in class each day
25% - PRACTICE and PERFORMANCES with instruments
25% - PROJECTS and ASSIGNMENTS both individual and group (includes theory workbook, listening guides)
25% - WRITTEN TESTS

HOMEWORK / TEXTBOOK LINK
Music Appreciation classes will occasionally have homework assignments.
Most class requirements are met during class through listening activities,
times of discussion and various writing assignments including tests.
