Señorita Scales Aula 1112 Clase de Español
Dear Parents,
I am very happy that your child has chosen to study the Spanish language and I am excited about the upcoming school year. Spanish is currently our nation’s second most widely spoken language. Learning Spanish can open a world of new opportunities for your child. It will be fun, but it will also be hard work. Your child will need a cooperative attitude, good study habits, and a desire to do well in Spanish class.
Reglas para la Clase de Español
Students will be expected to follow all the rules outlined in the A.J.H.S. student handbook.
1. Be respectful of the people, equipment, and furnishing in this room at all times.
2. Be on time to class. You must be in your assigned desk with all needed materials when the bell rings.
3. Come to class prepared. You will need your textbook, workbook, paper, and a blue or black ink pen every day.
4. You are in this class to learn to understand and to communicate in Spanish. You will be expected to use as much Spanish as possible. You must be attentive to do well in Spanish class. Do not work on assignments for other classes, sleep, write or pass notes in Spanish class.
5. Eating, drinking and chewing gum are not allowed in room 1112. (See student handbook)
Any student who chooses not to follow these rules may...
1. be given a verbal warning
2. be assigned a detention

Major tests will be announced 2 to 4 days in advance. Minor quizzes may be unannounced or announced a day in advance.
There will be absolutely no talking or moving around during a test or quiz. Any talking or moving around during a test or quiz will result in a grade of ZERO. If you have a problem during a test or quiz raise your hand and I will come to your desk to help you.
Homework
Because Spanish is a subject that cannot be learned without continuous practice you will have homework every night. If you are not given a written assignment to complete, then your homework is to study your vocabulary words and review the information learned in class that day for at least 20 minutes. For many of you Spanish is something entirely new. You cannot expect to do well unless you are willing to devote time to reviewing every night. Homework will be checked and evaluated on the basis of completeness and correctness. I do not accept late homework.
Class Participation
Class participation will be based on a student's preparation for class, cooperation in class, and willingness to respond to questions (effort and attention more than correctness).
Absences and make up work
Being absent 1 day on the block schedule is equal to missing 2 classes on the regular schedule. Students who are frequently absent do not do well in Spanish class. Spanish is a subject in which new lessons build on what was previously taught. When you are absent you missing important information that makes it very hard to catch up.
It is the responsibility of the student, not the teacher, to remember to make up work!! The privilege of making up work applies only to excused absences.
Make up day for the Spanish Department will be _______________ at ___________. You must make arrangements to be at the make up day that is closest to the day that you were absent. Having to work after school, ride the bus home, or forgetting are not acceptable excuses for missing make up day.
Any work not made up in a timely period (see student handbook) will result in a grade of ZERO.
If you are absent the day before a test or quiz you will be expected to take the test or quiz with the rest of the class.
