Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to 8th grade Language Arts. I am excited to have the opportunity to teach your student this year. I have a lot of fun activities planned for the upcoming school year. I would like you all to know that I am a strong believer in cooperative learning and group activities. I feel that it is a great way to encourage the students to think outside the box while also encouraging a positive learning environment! The following syllabus will contain a supply list, team management plan, and an explanation of the course of study. Please read through this syllabus with your student. Once you are done, please sign the signature lines and have your student return the signature section to me. Your student will need to keep the remainder of the syllabus in his/her binder for the entire year! It will stand as a constant reminder of the rules that I, and the Bearcat team, expect your student to follow.
Supplies
1 Inch Binder
1 Pack of Dividers
1 Composition Book
Notebook Paper
Pen/Pencil (Pencil is only to be used for notes – all quizzes and tests must be in pen!)

Grading
I grade by the point system. Every assignment will be assigned a certain number of points. The grading scale is as follows:
A 90-100
B 80 – 89
C 70-79
D 65-69
F 64 and below

If you have an excused absence and miss work, you will be responsible for the work that you missed. YOU as the student, not the teacher, are responsible for getting make-up work. Please do this before or after class.
Late Work
Late work is not accepted. When work is turned in late without an excused absence, the student will receive a zero.

I will respond to your messages/emails as soon as I can. My website and the Bearcat website are both wonderful resources! Thank you for taking the time to read and discuss my syllabus with your student. Please sign and date on the appropriate lines below!
