A Day No Pigs Would Die

Purpose: To introduce students to some of the topics introduced by Robert Newton Peck in his loosely autobiographical novel, A Day No Pigs Would Die. Students will look closely at some aspect of Peck's novel, create some type of report, and share with the class, thereby creating background knowledge for the novel and generating purpose for reading.

Overview
Students will be placed in small groups. Each group will use the internet to research a particular aspect of the novel. Each group will be given some type of small project to present the information they have collected to the class.
Tasks
Timeline
You will have two days in the computer lab to do your research and typing. I would advise everyone to browse the research together, then split up the note-taking and complete the research in one day. The second day, you can work on the product. Some of you will be able to complete the entire product on the computer and others will need to use additional supplies to work on the product. You will have half a class period in class to finish your product before presenting.
