o    Narrative Writing (Memoirs)

Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics

1.       Compose using prepositional phrases

2.       Compose using compound sentences

3.       Compose using complex sentences

4.       Use compound-complex sentences to vary sentence structure.

5.       Identify the correct use of degrees of comparison, adjectives and adverb forms

6.       Apply mechanics in writing, including using quotation marks

7.       Use underlining and italics to punctuate titles

Reading Responses are assigned for self-selected or teacher-assigned reading.

Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics

1.       Identify  compound subjects, including those joined by or with the second element as singular or plural

2.       Apply subject-verb agreement rules with

a.        collective nouns

b.       nouns compound in form but singular in meaning

c.        compound subjects joined by correlative and coordinating conjunctions

d.        subjects plural in form but singular in meaning

3.       Use commas to join two independent clauses

4.       Use commas to correct run-on sentences

5.       Use semicolons with conjunctive adverbs

6.       Verbs & Usage
