August 21 -        Read Chapter Two of Anthem before Monday. Complete reading log and quotes for Chapter Two. Be ready for Chapter Two quiz.

August 25 -        Read Chapters 3 and 4 of Anthem stopping after each chapter to complete your reading log and quotes sheet. If even, do your vocabulary graphics.

August 26 -        Read Chapters 5 and 6 of Anthem stopping after each chapter to complete your reading log and quotes sheet. If odd, do your ten vocabulary sentences. Remember your first vocabulary test is this Friday on words from Time Machine and Anthem. Bring t-shirt money by this Friday and Alabama Shakespeare Festival money by Friday, Sept. 5.

August 27 -         Read Chapters 7 and 8 of Anthem stopping after each chapter to complete your reading log and quotes sheet. Write for 15 minutes on your memoir. Study vocabulary for quiz this Friday. Bring t-shirt money by this Friday. There won't be another t-shirt order until February.

August 28 -         Read Chapters 9 and 10 of Anthem stopping after each chapter to complete your reading log and quotes sheet. Study vocabulary for the quiz moved to next Tuesday. Study pronouns  for next Wednesday's test

August 29 -         Study vocabulary for Tuesday's vocab. quiz (60 points). Review pronouns for unit test Wednesday. Work on Anthem projects ( see Project Choices for Anthem.doc ) due Sept. 9. Prepare assigned  anthem discussion questions.htm.

September 2 -      Study for tomorrow's pronoun unit test using today's practice test and notes on pronoun lesson 1-6 in your grammar section of your three-ring notebook. Work on memoirs and Anthem projects. Also... bring a plain white t-shirt to class Friday.

September 3 -        Work on your memoir. Finish draft one if not yet done. "I Am" artistic poems are due Friday for 20 points. Work on Anthem projects due Tues. Sept.9. Finally, bring a white t-shirt to class Friday for our class celebration of individuality.

September 4-         Finish trying at least two memoir revision techniques from my website. Remember to type them in different colors. Print memoir if able to bring to class. Finish artistic versions of "I Am" poems and bring to class Friday for 20 points. Bring a white t-shirt or handkerchief to class Friday for our celebration of individuality. Work on Anthem projects due Tuesday.

September 5 -        Work on Anthem projects due Tuesday. Make them FANTASTIC! (Please read the directions carefully.) Remember to put your t-shirts/handkerchiefs in the dryer or dry them with a hair dryer so the heat will set the color. Don't wash them first.

September 8 -        Finish Anthem projects due tomorrow. Bring your book and Anthem folder to turn in tomorrow as well. Work on memoir using suggestions from class today.

September 9 -        Continue to work on memoir revisions. See hints on website for help under writing and memoir revisions. Bring a 3-prong folder for the Odyssey.

September 10 -      Continue to work on memoir revisions. Be ready to participate in peer feedback tomorrow. Bring a folder for the Odyssey. Bring $35 for ASF by Friday!

September 11 -      Vocabulary graphics for odds, sentences for evens. Use today's peer feedback to further revise memoirs. Explain to parents that due to the network being down, you will get your progress report tomorrow. Bring $35 for ASF - the deadline is tomorrow!

September 12 -     Finalize memoir. Print if able and bring it to class Monday.

September 15 -     Complete Vocabulary Practice Sentences (1-25) and Epithets handout in your Odyssey folder. Print memoirs if able and not already done. Remember dance for donuts at 7:15 or come after school if interested to practice for the pep rally dance competition.

September 16 -     Vocabulary Flashcards and Epithets handout if not done Monday. Remember to take care of any zeroes this week!

September 17 -     Study for dialogue unit test tomorrow. Review vocabulary for Friday's quiz. Work on editing memoirs if you got yours back today.

September 18 -     Study for tomorrow's vocabulary quiz. Work on final drafts if you received a teacher edit.

September 19 -      Bring in final copies of your memoir. If you don't have a printer, make arrangements to print at a friend's house or the public library, but print. Next week's vocabulary sentences will be due on Tuesday. If you prefer to write them this weekend, go ahead. If you created a vocabulary graphic on your computer in class, print it this weekend or finish the one you were drawing.

September 22 -     Bring in any final copies of memoir that were not turned in today. Complete the Odyssey's recognizing allusions handout. Begin studying for your Odyssey unit test by reviewing material in your folder.

September 23 - Complete the Odyssey crossword puzzle you received in class. Look at the attached study guide to start preparing for Friday's Odyssey Unit Test.Odyssey study guide_4.htm

September 24 - "This Is Just to Say" artistic poems related to the Odyssey. Make them good and descriptive and have fun with the artwork. STUDY for your Odyssey Unit Test on Friday. Remember, we'll play a review game for part of class tomorrow. The winning team earns 5 bonus points on your unit test. STUDY TONIGHT. If absent today, see the study guide linked last night.

September 25 -  Study for tomorrow's Odyssey Unit Test. The questions from today's review game are linked here, but BEWARE that doesn't cover everything on your study guide. KNOW YOUR TERMS. Be sure to bring your folder to class so you can finish copying the chart of adventures before the test. Also, get progress reports signed and bring them back tomorrow.

September 29 - Practice quiz on italics vs. quotation marks. We will go over this tomorrow before your quiz. Study vocabulary list #3 for quiz on Wednesday. Think about group metaphor for the seven ages of man.

September 30 - Study for vocabulary quiz on list #3. Preview Romeo and Juliet Act One Scene One, especially if you want a chance to read a part.

October 1 -       Preview Act One, Scenes 2-4 of Romeo and Juliet. Even if you don't want to read a part, previewing the language and the meanings in the margins would be helpful to your understanding what we read tomorrow.

October 2 -       Preview Act One, Scenes 4-5 of Romeo and Juliet.

October 3 -       Write your own Queen Mab poem and turn it into a work of art to share on Monday. We want to see the Queen Mab you describe. Review Act One of Romeo and Juliet.

October 6 -        Study for your Act One quiz. Preview Act Two, Scenes 1-2. Vocabulary graphic for odd numbered students and late Queen Mabs will be taken tomorrow.

October 7 -         Vocabulary sentences for ten of your words for even numbered students- If in doubt and you did not turn in a vocab. graphic today, write your sentence! Preview 2.2-2.3.

October 8 -         Review semicolons and colons for tomorrow's quiz. Answer questions for Act 2.1-2.3 and identify the quotes. Check your on-line text book for answers as needed. Preview 2.4.

October 9 -         Bring in your literary essay's thesis with a clear bing, bang, and boom along with a detailed outline for the rest of your paper. Get your progress report signed.   

October 10 -       Complete your questions and identify for quotes for the rest of Act Two from Romeo and Juliet. Study vocabulary. Quiz is Wednesday.

October 13 -       D2 (or D1 if you're behind) of your literary essay using your new and improved thesis and outline to match. Study for tomorrow's quiz on Act 2 of Romeo and Juliet. Review         vocabulary. Vocabulary quiz is Wednesday.

October 14 -       Study vocabulary list #4 from The Odyssey for tomorrow's quiz. Finish revisions of literary essay. Come ready to get peer feedback.

October 15 -       If you missed today's vocabulary quiz, make a plan to make it up. Bring revised literary essays for peer feedback in writing workshop tomorrow.

October 16 -      Progress reports signed. Questions and quotes for 3.1-3.2. Preview 3.3-3.4. Work on revisions based on peer feedback.

October 17 -      Finish revisions using peer feedback and bring a printed copy of literary paper for teacher feedback.  Animated quotation assignment on the back of your Act 3 quotes is due Wednesday. Feel free to choose your quote and do a really good job of bringing it to life on paper this weekend. Remember that you are taking the quote literally to create the illustration in the same way some of you did the Anthem quotes project.  Look to the text for the whole quote (lines given on handout).  I can't get my R&J projects to link. I'll post them Monday after I get tech. help. Check back then.

October 21 -     Complete questions and quotes for Act 3 scenes 4 and 5. If you were on the field trip today, read these with a friend who was in class or read them and then call a friend to discuss them or read them and then at sparks notes on line to help your understanding. Act 3 quiz is scheduled for tomorrow! Be ready. The animated quotations assignment has been moved to Thursday.  Finally, if you have time look over choices for your  Romeo and Juliet Final Project.

October 22 - Animated quotation due tomorrow for 20 points - Cover the page with your artwork. Put the quote and your picture on the front. Color the background. STUDY for your Act 3 quiz which you'll have first thing tomorrow. Look over the project sheet you got today so you can ask questions tomorrow.

October 23 - Answer questions for 4.1-4.3 and identify quotes. Begin planning Romeo and Juliet Final Project. Bring in signed progress reports along with any 0's or blanks to make up. Tomorrow's the deadline for make up work before 0's become permanent. Check out this Romeo and Juliet study guide.

October 29 - Study for Romeo and Juliet Unit Test to be ready for Family Feud tomorrow and your 160 point test on Friday! Work on Romeo and Juliet projects.

October 31 - Finish Romeo and Juliet projects.

November 3 - Bring Romeo and Juliet folders to turn in. Bring the Essay Options prewriting from last week with at least one side COMPLETELY answered.

November 4 - Use the handouts you received today in class (in your writing section) and the prewriting you did for your essay option of choice and write a first draft of a literary essay about Romeo and Juliet. Make a real effort. Do a good job at this first draft.

November 5 - Incorporate quotes into last nights first draft. Read chapters one and two of Great Expectations.

November 6 - Use peer feedback to improve R&J paper to draft two if you were one of the twelve out of twenty-seven who had your homework. If you were one of the fifteen who had not written a first draft of your Romeo and Juliet paper GET CAUGHT UP!  ALSO - Everyone read chapters 3 and 4 of Great Expectations completing in full the bookmark I gave you.

November 7 - Read the rest of Chapter 5 (I stopped on the bottom half of p. 43), Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 and complete a bookmark that covers all three chapters by Monday. If you still need to finish D2 of your Romeo and Juliet essay do that, too! Have a great weekend.

November 10 - Read Chapters 8-9 tonight and complete a bookmark. Read Chapter 10 tomorrow and complete a separate bookmark. Bring both bookmarks to class along with any papers you want to leave for teacher edits. Remember that final drafts of literary essays will be due Friday. I will not take any for teacher edit after Wednesday.

November 12 - Read Chapter 11 of Great Expectations and complete a bookmark. Bring any Romeo and Juliet folders that did not get turned in last week!

November 13 - Read Chapters 12 and 13 and complete a bookmark.

November 14 - Work on literary papers. Finals are now due Tuesday. Bring yours with any questions to class Monday. Read Chapters 16 and 17 and complete a bookmark.

November 17 - Finish, print, and bring to class both literary papers along with any prewriting and earlier drafts that are already in hard copy. Read Chapter 18 and bring a completed bookmark to class.

November 18 - Create your own heart map with at least twenty ideas. Complete questions for Chapter 19 and review for tomorrow's Great Expectations Stage One Test.

November 19 - Read Chapters 20 and 21 and complete a bookmark. Remember that vocabulary work is due on Friday. I will take it early tomorrow. Remember also that any time spent writing poetry sparked from ideas on your heart map is a good investment of your time, as well.

November 20 - Read Chapters 22 and 23 and complete a homemade bookmark. Vocabulary work is due tomorrow. Remember also that any time spent writing poetry is time well spent.

November 21 - BRING CANS! Read Chapters 26 and 27 and complete a bookmark. Also come up with at least ten ideas for your own "Where Poetry Hides for Me" list. Remember also that any time spent writing poetry is time well spent. Review capitalization rules and when NOT to capitalize.
