Class Rules and Requirements

I.                    TOOLS/NOTEBOOK

 

Students will be required to bring textbook, notebook, paper and pencil to class each day.  The notebook must be the loose-leaf type so that paper may be added as needed.  Notes, vocabulary, class work, homework, and signed progress reports will be placed in the notebook.  I will check the notebook twice during the marking period (Mid-term and end of quarter).  The notebook will be graded on the bases of neatness and organization of materials.  One hundred bonus points will be incorporated into the homework average.

 

II.                  Student Planner

 

Students will be required to have a planner at all times.  The planner has very important information.  It will be used to record daily assignments and long term project due dates.

 

III.                TARDY POLICY

 

There is no excused tardiness. 

1st - tardy – Warning

2nd - tardy – Warning

3rd - tardy  - One school wide detention

4th – tardy – Two school wide detentions

5th – tardy – Three school wide detentions

6th – tardy – Office referral with one day In-School suspension

7th – tardy - Multiple days In-School suspension

 

IV.                CLASS RULES

 

In addition to AJH School rules and team rules, the following classroom rules must be followed in class:

 

1.       Come Prepared

2.       Remain Seated

3.       Listen (Look – Idle – Sit up – Turn – Engage – Notes)

4.       Keep your hands to yourself at all times.

5.       Take care of our equipment and supplies.

 

 

V.                  CONDUCT GRADE

 

At the beginning of each nine-week marking period, students will receive 100 conduct points.  Each time I record a rule violation on the student’s behavior documentation sheet, it will costs 1 point during the first semester and 2 points during the second semester.  The conduct grade is based on the following scale:

 

      100-90 points – Satisfactory

      89-80 points – Needs Improvement

      Below 80 – Unsatisfactory

     

VI.                RESTROOM PASSES

 

It is important to take restroom breaks between classes because they are disruptive to the learning environment during class.  Restroom breaks during class will cost 1 conduct point. 

 

VII.              DETENTION

 

Teacher detention will be assigned for the following reasons:

1.       Violating classroom rules more than three times during any one-class period.

2.       Failing to bring tools to class (notebook, paper, pencil & textbook).

3.       Failing to turn in homework or notebook.

4.       Being disrespectful to students and teacher.

 

The consequence for more serious offenses will be an office referral with a parent conference.

 

VIII.            VOCABULARY/Blue assignment sheet

 

 Students will receive a blue assignment sheet at the beginning of the workweek.  The assignment sheet will list the topics and problems we will work on for that week.  On the back of the assignment sheet will be vocabulary for the week.  Students will be required to take notes and copy guided practice problems that I model for each lesson. 

 

IX.                HOMEWORK

 

Homework problems will be an extension of the guided practice problems modeled in class.  Usually 15 problems are assigned where students must show work for each problem. Two points will be deducted for each problem with no steps.  (NO WORK, NO CREDIT).  The answers are posted on the board and students are required to grade their work.  Homework will be collected each day.

 

X.                  DAILY QUIZ /5 MINUTE CHECKS

 

Each day a 5-minute quiz is given over the assignment. Students will do the 5-minute problems at the bottom of their homework.  One point will be earned for each correct problem.  Points earned will count as bonus points for tests grades.

 

XI.                TESTS

A weekly test will be given to evaluate mastery of objectives.  A student may re-test after school, but it only counts up to 80%.  Students must re-test before the next weekly test is given.  All tests will be kept in a student folder that is to remain at school.  Parents are welcome to view a student’s folder during a parent/teacher conference.

 

XII.              SPECIAL PROJECTS

 

Mathematics projects are assigned to enhance understanding of a concept.  Each project will count as one test grade.

 

XIII.            ABSENCES/LATE WORK

 

Each student is responsible for making up work missed due to an absence.  The handbook policy on make up work will be followed.  Ten points will be deducted for late assignments and projects.  Assignments more than 5 days late will not be accepted.

 

XIV.           GRADING SYSTEM

Pre-Algebra                                                            

20% - Homework with notebook bonus points

10% - Class work graded in the notebook                  

70% - Tests and Projects
