The
Auburn High School Marching Band is a non-competition band consisting of
180 members, and is voluntary for all students in the band program.
The Marching Band is made up of students in the Honors and Symphonic Bands at Auburn High,
and 9th graders from Auburn Junior High School. Instead of playing one show the entire year, as do most
high school marching bands, the AHSMB performs several shows throughout the
season, as do college marching bands. The AHSMB's repertoire is designed
for the enjoyment of the crowd, and has included modern rock, oldies, jazz,
big band, traditional marches, and classical. The AHSMB is predominantly a corps style band, though the band
does occasionally march the traditional Big Ten and show band styles. The AHSMB is known statewide for its impressive
sound and quality shows, and has been known to elicit standing ovations
from the opposing crowd for performances. In 1997, the band traveled
to London to march in the Lord Mayor of Westminister's New Year's Parade (viewed by 350-400 million
on BBC Worldwide), and has been invited to Gubernatorial and Presidential
Inaugural Parades, and has appeared on national television six times.
In 2001, the Band traveled to France for the New Year's parade of the city of Paris, the La Grande Parade de Paris. The AHSMB is also
one of the ten top bands in the nation in producing McDonald's
All-American Band members, having produced a full half of the members from
the state from 1971-1986.
The AHSMB
begins practice in early June with a week of Rookie Camp from 8:30-11:00
am, followed by music rehearsals from 1:00-3:30 pm. Further summer
rehearsals are held beginning with the 2nd week of July and continuing until
school begins..
During the school year (during football season) rehearsals are Monday through Thursday from 3:30 -
4:45p.m.
