Kaoru Hinata was a member of the Auburn High School Band from 1983-88, and currently
performs with the Circadia Winds, as well as being on faculty at the Bloomingdale School of Music in New York.
While at Auburn High, she qualified for a spot in the Alabama Bandmasters All-State Red Band five consecutive years,
sitting first chair Red Band her eighth grade, sophomore, junior, and senior years.
After graduating from Auburn High, Hinata attended Northwestern University, and subsequenty received her Masters of Music and Artists Diploma from Yale, studying under Random Wilson. Hinata has also held positions with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and the Wallingford Symphony, as well as performing with the Orchestra of St Luke's, the New Jersey Symphony, New Haven Symphony, the DaCapo Opera Orchestra, the Berkshire Opera, and Camerata New York. As a soloist Ms. Hinata was the winner of the Lawrence Beauregard Competition in Canada in 1994, placed second in the Myrna Brown Competition in Texas in 1995, and has premiered flute works by Christopher Theofanidis and Dan Sonenberg. For the 1986 Fall Supper Concert, the Auburn High School Band performed Nikoli Rimsky-Korsakov's The Flight of the Bumblebee, featuring Hinata on flute.
